Reviews Summary
Overall, people do not seem to like the VicoHome: Smart Home Camera app due to numerous issues including incorrect bird identification, excessive ads, poor video quality, connectivity problems, limited features without a subscription, unreliable notifications, and poor customer support.
Camera is great and app has potential. But it rarely identifies a bird correctly. It labels it as the wrong species or thinks it's a person or pet. This isn't that big of a deal, except that my feathered visitors section is full of errors that (according to the dev) can't be removed. I was really looking forward to keeping track of the birds that have REALLY visited. Plus, getting notifications (in error) that there's a person in your yard is a bit alarming/annoying.
Setup was easy. UI for rest of app, especially viewing and deleting videos from the bird feeder, is clunky and not intuitive. Since videos are best viewed in landscape mode, it would be nice if the list of videos could also be viewed in landscape mode so that you could switch back and forth between those two screens without having to keep rotating your phone.
Basically Adware. Even though you purchased hardware for a substantial price, the app will constantly bombard you with "optional" ads and up-sells to the point where you have to wade through X boxes in order to actually use the device you purposed. This isn't a piece of hardware, but an ad-delivery service. There are better platforms/devices out there that don't hold the hardware hostage. I recommend using them instead.
Using the bird feeder cam.... connection was fairly straightforward, and the app is OK, but could use fine tuning - a dark mode, clearer interface. Rating on the AI species identifier..... has alternately identified a Grey Squirrel as a Northern Flicker, Ruby Crowned Kinglet, Northern Raven, and Pileated Woodpecker. Nope. That's a squirrel. No option to edit those misidentified off the list. Not a deal breaker, as the cam works great and has provided good fun, just annoying for a list birder.
I'm new to these cameras and app.But it was very windy on a particular day . I reached out to support thru the app...They viewed my videos that I sent feed back on..With permission of course. They got back to me and let me know what the problem was and they were 100% correct...So far I've had positive interaction with support on the app.And hope to continue positive results...ty...A whole year later and I have to say I LOVE THEIR APP SUPPORT!!!!
So far, I'm loving this app. These cameras are awesome and have such a clear and sharp pic. UPDATE- At first these camera were awesome, even using the free version they are great. But lately I've been having loads of issues with loading the feed and cloud videos, the videos buffering a ton. Idk if it's a new app update or what, but they been having a lot of issues.
The camera has xclnt picture quality. Setup for these cameras can be problematic. The app does not provide sufficient capabilities to limit area or sensitivity. Many false alarms. This company sends many marketing driven emails. The support can be adequate but the limits of the app causes unnecessary problems. The base-mounting system is poorly designed and manufactured. It is a low spot in an otherwise good system.
It connects to the feeder very slow (5-10 tries, tooks 10-15mins). The saved records on the sd card sometimes can be found, sometimes not. Very poor quality for the 2k camera. I can not turn off saving records in cloud, but I don't want to save anything there... Very poor options for the settings. The feeder is nice but the application is a nightmare. You have to create new registrations for each device you would like to reach your feeder. I am very disappointed.
Motion sensors are too sensitive even in lowest setting resulting in short battery life. The annual cost to keep using the cameras you already pay for is way to much as well. They also are often very slow at loading/opening clips that it's taken when you want to watch them in a hurry to make sure your surroundings are safe. They also need updates all the time
It picks and choose when to notify me. Sometimes it will alert me to a car driving by but then won't alert me to someone walking up to my door. Not sure if that's a notification problem or what but it happens frequently. Go to check to see if maybe it just didn't notify me but still captured the event but no it doesn't even show it in the cloud saves.
