Reviews Summary
People generally like VLC for Android, appreciating its playback capabilities and wide format support, but many users complain about recent updates introducing issues such as playlist management problems, unexpected behaviors, lack of certain features, and frequent crashes.
I have issues with usability and general design clunkiness. Shuffle feature is a true shuffle that doesn't generate a sequence you can edit. File management of Playlists is frustrating and unintuitive (info doesnt show file path, you can't rename in app or add new songs directly from the playlist screen, listing them only organizes alphabetically, etc.). Library refreshes take AGES. Also not a fan of the design of the widget on android home screen, it doesn't utilize its space well.
Today my VLC player updated and I don't like it. The speed arrows used to work well at fixing when u weren't on 5 or 10 of a speed now they are +1 at a time. That's what the bar was for. Next I usually listen to audio books on 4x speed and anything over 3.99 X speed now is silent but is still playing. I switched to this audio player so I could listen at 3.75-4Γ speeds which others don't offer. Please fix whatever is wrong so I don't have to hunt and peck for my speed and it doesn't go silent.

Thank you for the feedback, we will look into this, sorry for the inconvenience.
My purpose for having a video player app is very narrow as I often do not watch videos downloaded to my phone. It's pretty much just for identifying chords in acoustic guitar videos and to do so sometimes the playback speed must be slowed. This is extremely buggy as sometimes the video freezes altogether and sometimes just the picture. But it is very frustrating to have to troubleshoot an app several times when using a specific feature of it.
This has been a great app along side Android Auto. I'd give it 5 stars except for the fact that on my phone, it splits albums randomly. I have check different tag sources and they all match. Also when you refresh, if you've changed an album cover, it won't change it. You have dump the cache from the app settings so it deletes the old.
Uninstalled again. Good player, but got a new Phone and it's back to playing automatically anytime I put my headset on. And no matter the settings it seems to always do this. Also started switching my screen saver background to the playing track even when not playing and regardless of the settings for background on Screen saver.
A recent update broke my way of listening. I download podcasts to listen to at work and play them as a playlist. However, after the update, whenever I get a phone notification, the audio pauses and rewinds 5 seconds when the notification ends. Additionally, it no longer resumes where I left off but instead restarts the audio file from the beginning.

Updated. I spent 30 minutes clearing caches, changing permissions, and now it works, but not for wmv files on Android 11 anymore. And it forgot which directory I was in last. I'm beginning to believe the best thing an app can do is fire 90% of the developers. It's not broken, stop fixing it. Too much of a nuisance to install something else right now, but I'll look later.
Thank you for making an ad-free music player that works offline, I was afraid there wasn't any left. Edit: keeping 5* for the lack of ads, but the app is pretty buggy these days :/ Controls on the notif constantly stop working, when I open the app the 'now playing' bar is always sunk below my home screen/back buttons and rendered inoperable, and shuffling all tracks doesn't work properly--some tracks show up multiple times before all tracks have played once.
Works great! However, an update for the app got applied and it redid the scan directories and reset or added the option for playlist mode which is to be off by default. I lost the shuffle and playlist mode after the update, luckily I was able to revert the changes the update defaulted to. These were both in the interface settings. Shuffle was disabled in music tab as it doesn't like multiple "root" directories apparently
Latest update seems to have broken playing through an album, skipping to next track says "last song in playlist" (even on track 1) and skipping back just restarts the song. Playlists work normally. (edit: "multiple media cannot be played" error repeatedly pops up when trying to play whole albums) App has functioned normally and been reliable for years. Please fix!
