Reviews Summary
People generally like the Sun Position, Sunrise/set PRO app for its ability to accurately track the sun's path for various purposes, such as gardening, photography, and planning events, though some users have noted issues with sun path accuracy, compass calibration, and the need for additional features like custom location settings and improved data export options.
Not entirely accurate. I used the map with sun overlay, to line up the perfect sunrise photo, with a distant lighthouse, the sun came up out the sea, and I had to walk south a few minutes to get the shot I had planned. The times were accurate, but not the direction. Editor response- Nothing to do with my compass because I wasn't using it, I'm using the lines drawn on the map in 2D mode.
Developer response:
Sorry you have had problems with the app. It might be that the compass sensor on your device needs calibrating. You can find instructions on this in the app. If you have any further questions on this you can contact us at [email protected]. Thanks.
I'm using this to plan raised beds under an old-growth canopy. I like the sun path view, especially being able to specify a date range. Still trying to figure out what all the lines on the map view are useful for. The reason this is not 5 stars (yet) is because sun path view only works from "current location" & updating current location seems dependent on direct interaction w/Google maps initiated from map view; this is time consuming. It'd be nice to be able to specify a location in sun path.
Developer response:
Hi, thanks for your feedback. You should be able to switch the location directly in the Sun Path view by tapping on the location icon on the right hand side of the top action bar. If you have any further questions you can email us at [email protected] and we will try to help.
This is a great tool. I initially got it to visualize sunrise and sunset paths for photography, but have since used it to site a small solar project. More recently, I have discovered the "locations" and "events" features, which is really helpful for planning out times based around celestial events for hunting. Feature request: figure out how to add events to Google Calendar or other ICS based calendars. Feature request 2: allow the setup of events that simply use current location, not a predetermined one.
Developer response:
Thanks for your feedback. We have added your feature requests to our list for future updates of the app.
Just started using it. I'm finding the best location for a solar panel array. The app can show the path of the sun at its highest point in the summer and at its lowest point in the winter and the path currently - at the same time! All overlayed on your phone's camera display - beautiful! There's tons of interesting data and lots more the app can do that I haven't explored but, it has been great for my needs already - love it!

Thanks for your feedback - we are pleased you like it!
I love the app. excellent tool for photography. I recently used it to estimate how much natural sunlight a potential apartment would get throughout the day. I used it at night, when I could see the apartment. I used it again later while in the apartment during the day and realized that the sun path was quite inaccurate. not sure how to calibrate, or if their is sensor interference.
Developer response:
Hi, thanks for your feedback. If you go into the main app menu you should see a 'calibrate' option.
I made the decision to pay for this app so I could search forward. As a very immature photographer, I am trying to identify places for future Golden hour shots was well as some dramatic sunshots. Also some opportunities for moonlight shots. The navigation is a little clunky but happy with the performance and I recommend giving it a try. There is a lot of junk out there, and this app is definitely NOT one of the junkie ones.
Doesn't plot the sun path accurately enough for solar panel placement. Pretty good error between where it says the sun is today compared to where it actually is. My phone's (Motorola z2 force) compass works better in portrait than landscape but either way is not accurate enough to determine where shadows will be. It would probably be ok for a photographer or someone wanting a general idea of sun position. For an app I paid for, I'm disappointed.
Very nice but it is very hard to read the Red font on satellite view which I must use for determing best time to take drone shots. You either need to change the color or give us the ability to set the color for the Sun track/path. Red is fine for a non satellite image but I would have to believe 95% of people use the satellite view.

Thanks for your feedback, we will look into this when we next update the app.
I rarely give five stars, but this app is just fantastic. It's really helpful for determining where the sun is going to be when I camp, so I can maximise sun for my solar panels and shade for my van or tent. It takes a while to learn what the icons mean but other than that it's intuitive and accurate.
Nice if you could further emphasize the current sun position row in the data. The asterisk is a bit 'weak', considering it is such a useful piece of information.

Thanks for your feedback. We will add this to our list to review when we next update the app.
