Reviews Summary
Overall, users have mixed feelings about USB Media Explorer, with many praising its ability to read various file formats and transfer files from external storage efficiently, while others report issues with the interface, bugs, file transfer limitations, device incompatibility, and a lack of certain functionalities.
Updated, the develop seems to be planning to resolve some of the issues mentioned in my previous review. However, I should not have relied on this app for important work-related files or use it with large quantities of files, due to the lack of separation of Favorites into a new folder, and the glitchiness of the app in general. Created much more work for me when I purchased it to make life easier...
Okay I have a couple trail cameras and this is the best app for reading my memory cards. I am able to set it up to view all pictures or videos. (Just a remember you have too have your trail camera set for videos.) You can also select your pictures by swiping picture too picture. Or let it play picture to picture for you, have to select it in the settings. Can't hurt to try this app.
Works great w/pixel 2 xl, but got a galaxy tab s7+ & when plugging in same type c flash drive, cant transfer between them. I can browse internal storage, microsd card, & usb drive, but try to copy usb drive to internal drive on Tab S7, it asks what app to open to transfer it, & when I select an app (es file explorer, total commander, or this app), the "copy" is gone. Have to Xfer to pixel, & tether to tab s7 to fully transfer. It seems broken on the Galaxy tab S7. Hope it's fixed love the app!

I haven't seen this happen before. If you contact me [email protected], we can look into this.
So I got the app for the purpose of being able to export to an exFAT drive from my pixel 6 pro (I saw it was a solution to no exFAT support on Reddit). The purpose of having an exFAT drive was to not have a file size limit. Well I come to find that I can't even transfer a 19 minute video because it exceeded the system max file size. The app is useless otherwise because transferring smaller videos doesn't require anything special and you don't need a third party to do it.
Developer response:
UME will not format a drive, so it needs to be formatted on a computer. Also, Android won't recognize the drive, it may prompt you to format the drive when you connect it. Don't do this! If reformatting on a computer doesn't solve the problem please contact me at [email protected]. We should be able to get this working.
Note8 I paid. Freezes up after viewing two photos. Buttons lock up and I've got to close everything. Won't let me watch videos from usb sd card, says something about not having some sort of "codex" for videos. (Edit) I'll try your suggestion and update review. Its awesome you responded, ty.
Developer response:
The freezing issue is most likely caused by a communication issue with the device. If you contact me at [email protected], we can look into it. UME doesn't play videos directly, so it sounds like the player you are using doesn't support that format. Trying installing another player such as VLC.
All my drives are formatted NTFS, which the S4 cannot read. Nexus Media Importer solves that problem. With a powered OTG cable, I can import or play/open media files & docs on external SSDs. Phone/device must support OTG to power flash drives and other devices that get their power the phone/device they are connected to.. It imports or streams only. Your device must be able to play/display/open the file or stream. Xlnt file explorer, generates thumbnails, shows file size & date, album & artist.
Seems good. I found this app through a YouTube video about connecting a LaCie Rugged SSD to a Android phone .... The lacie was unreadable and someone in YouTube said to buy this app and claimed that you would have access to the LaCie .... Seemed skeptical but indeed I can now view and transfer files on the SSD to android ..... So yes this app works nicely as a library for device folders ..... Idk why the Lacie SSD won't connect through the default android files explorer howeverthis app fixed it
UPDATE: Offline mode has worked fine for years now and on the different phones, I forgot about this old review. This app was great but their insistence on license OTA causes the app to fail. What a PITA when you're out of range etc. now it fails all the time and their web site has no support options. Will uninstall and eat the price I guess. Don't change phones if you buy this app.
Developer response:
Sorry this happened. We should be able to straighten it out. The license should only be checked on initial install. Please contact me via "Email Developer" or tap "Homesoft" from the "About" screen (back out of the license message to get there) and we can try to fix the problem.
For years, I suffered with the atrocious, unreliable, buggy POS Fuji App for camera file transfers to my phone on the go. Then I bought an OTG Card Reader only to find out that Android 12 / Pixel 6 Pro DO NOT support exFAT format SD cards which all of my cameras use by default in camera formating (yes, you could use FAT32 but that's an extra hassle). Eventually I found this little gem. It's perfect, finally I can transfer my camera files regardless of the SD card format. Much love to the devs.
I totally appreciate what this app can do for my Pixel 6. I have small issues where 1) the app can't differentiate between photos/ videos on the photo roll and in the rubbish bin. 2) Takes a wee while to load photo/video content from the phone and as more load the thumbnail doesn't stay in the same spot. The UI is very 8 bit retro vines, Kind of love it.
Developer response:
Trash photos should be filtered in the Photos view. In files view, everything is displayed. The jumping is for a couple of reasons. UME doesn't use the Android Media Store so it has to parse them each time. The other reason is the sort order. They technically don't move, just other photos jump in between them.
